Regular Meeting -- July 19, 2015
The Board of Directors held its regular monthly meeting at 2007 Bert Avenue, Austin, TX 78704, starting at 2:30 pm. The following directors (constituting a quorum of the full board) were present at the meeting: President Kathy Lee, Treasurer Penny Chambers (by phone, and Lesleigh Ellinger. The following directors were absent: Vice President Tamara Vogt. Robert McGarey (Secretary and Executive Director) was also present at the meeting.
The Mission Statement was read aloud at the beginning of the meeting. Minutes from the previous meeting were read aloud. The minutes were then approved as read.
Board Members & Board Meetings. Bob said we need more members of the board, and asked everyone to think about who would be a good board member. Bob announced that the reason we have had so few board meetings this year is that we have been thrown off by Pam's death.
Renters & Volunteers. The board decided to require that people who rent space on an ongoing basis at the Center need to attend at least one event every month and spend at least 3 hours each month working on something that improves the Center community. It was suggested that we have a clipboard near the back door where renters can write at the beginning of the month what they intend to work on this month, as well as when they plan to do it (if they know) and whether or not they want other volunteers to help them.
That led to the suggestion that we have a clipboard where volunteers can log their volunteer time, and then we can have another volunteer type it all in at the end of each month, since volunteers currently often forget to log their time.
That led to a suggestion that we reverse the listing of the volunteer work people have done, which is sent out to everyone at the end of each month via email, so that the most current email tasks shows up first rather than last.
Members. That led to a suggestion that we have an "All Members Meeting" perhaps once a quarter where we actively encourage members to attend and give us their input. Bob said that would have been hard for him to even consider before our new Executive Assistant volunteer, Ashley, but now that she's working about 20 hours a week, reaching out to our current members has become much more possible.
Since there was no further business, the meeting adjourned at 3:55 pm.
